Artwork self-commentary:
While I am not completely satisfied with my work, I am glad that I’ve finished it on time; and that I’ve learned a lot from this project. And most importantly, I had fun designing a coffee table, because, well, I like coffee and small tables are more out of the ordinary. They have to look simple, yet also be original.
The biggest flaw of my work is probably the lack of evident-cultural touch: I did try to include exotic Vietnamese signs, but it has very little detail and not fully accurate; I also did include (red) wood, a common material for furniture in Vietnam, and I used glass to add modern elements to the final work. One thing I’ve learned from this project maybe, is that I should spend more time on research before actually starting to design.
The modeling part was most frustrating, making a circular model is much more complicated than expected. I had to start all over 3 times because I did not choose the correct materials. Also, as a result of the modeling complications, the final model looks slightly different from the designed work. This taught me two things: The choice of materials is important, especially for support; and when designing furniture, I should give more consideration for the modeling process. For instance, making a square table would be much easier than a circular table.
The journal wasn’t updated daily, so it would lose some details or ideas every now and then. But It still has the main process of design and thoughts.
All in all, I think the work succeeded its objective, but could have been better.
Cheers~
